Headshot of Jayoda Tennekone, BA(Hons), BSW, MSW, RSW, clinical social worker in Stratford, PEI
Hi, I was born and raised in Stratford, Prince Edward Island. I hold a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Sociology and Anthropology from the University of Prince Edward Island, a Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Manitoba, and a Master of Social Work from Wilfrid Laurier University.

I was drawn to social work early in my career while working as a Child and Youth Care Worker.  Since then, I have gained extensive experience working in diverse settings as a Social Worker, providing mental health therapy, facilitating evidence-based group programs, and leading community-focused mental health initiatives.

I offer comprehensive therapy services to individuals, families and groups.. My approach draws from formal training in DBT and EMDR. I approach my clinical work as a collaborative process that emphasizes each client’s right to self-determination. I am committed to providing high-quality, responsive therapy that is guided by each client’s story.

OUTSIDE OF CLINICAL PRACTICE

Outside of clinical practice, I am a husband, father, and have a lifelong passion for martial arts. I am a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt under Jason Saggo (PEI MMA) and the late Matt MacGrath (Renzo Gracie PEI), and I hold an Orange Belt in Judo. I enjoy sharing my knowledge of Jiu-Jitsu as an instructor with adolescents and adults, helping to build confidence and a sense of community.

How the process works

Beginning therapy can be confusing, challenging and overwhelming. Check the guide below which provides an overview of the therapeutic process- from initial contact to closure of service.

1

 Initial Contact

You are welcome to inquire about services through email, phone, or through the contact form. After your message is received, I will respond within 24 to 48 hours to schedule a free 15-minute phone consultation.

2

Phone Consultation

During the phone call, we will briefly discuss reasons for accessing support services, goals and needs. We will also identify potential next steps, including booking a session

3

 Intake Process

You'll complete a brief intake form that goes over essential information about your background and current situation. In this phase you will also review the treatment contract, which outlines policies, confidentiality, and expectations

4

Assessment

In the first few sessions, we will assess your needs and create a personalized treatment plan. This may include questionnaires, referrals or other requirements.

5

Recurring Therapy Sessions

At this point we begin regular therapy sessions. Sessions are typically 50 minutes long and scheduled at regular intervals based on individual needs and goals.

6

Continued Support

We provide continuous support and regularly review your progress to ensure that the treatment is effective and aligned with your goals. Adjustments to the treatment plan are made as needed to accommodate any changes in your needs or circumstances.

7

Closure of Service

Upon completion of the treatment plan, a formal closure session is typically held which includes discharge planning, reflection of therapeutic process and review of resources for the future.
